The Boys Season 3 Ep. 3: Barbary Coast finds Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) having to meet with Little Nina (Katia Winter) to negotiate a way of getting The Boys to Russia. Little Nina agrees to help but in exchange, as well as a huge cash payment, she needs The Boys to kill a target for her. Butcher appoints The Female (Karen Fukuhara) for the mission.
Meanwhile, Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) holds a conference to address Homelander’s (Antony Starr) situation, but she betrays Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) by publicly accusing him of having committed crimes. It turns out that Homelander provided Neuman with a dosage of Compound V in as payment for her betrayal. Neuman injects her daughter Zoe with it to help “protect her.”
Elsewhere, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) recruits Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) and Supersonic (Miles Gaston Villanueva) to help her stand up against Homelander. Supersonic in-turn recruits A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) to the cause after watching Homelander and The Deep bullying him.
Alex later attempts to do the same with A-Train, after witnessing the latter being mistreated by Homelander and The Deep (Chace Crawford).
In Russia, Hughie discovers the V24 vials and begs Butcher to give him one but Butcher refuses. Later, when The Boys infiltrate a secret laboratory, they get outgunned by Russian soldiers until Butcher and Hughie use their powers, revealing that Hughie secretly injected himself with a dose of V24 that he stole from Butcher. After the battle, Butcher finds and opens a life pod. Inside is a still-living Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) who builds up an energy blast that hits The Female. For the first time though, she does not begin healing. This causes concerns for The Boys!
In the episode finale, Homelander flies Starlight to a rooftop where he reveals a murdered viciously Supersonic. Homelander reveals A-Train told him of their plot and threatens to do the same to Hughie if she does not do as he says!
Verdict: 9/10. The pace is quickening, and the consequences are getting more and more dangerous. We are now half-way through the season and the twists and turns in this superhero political mine field are getting crazier. With Episode 6 being an adaption of Herogasm we just know things are about to go up a further gear on the crazy scale!
