We are back in America as The Boys recover from the events of Episode 4, with Frenchie (Tomer Kapon) checking Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) into a hospital, MM (Laz Alonso) leaving the team, and Hughie (Jack Quaid) returning home and filling Starlight (Erin Moriarty) in on all the details. Butcher (Karl Urban) meanwhile meets up with Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) who gives him another batch of V24. The two then get drunk and have sex.
Back at Vought, Ashley (Colby Minifie) is the new CEO whilst Homelander begins to work with the executive board. Starlight and A-Train cross paths and A-Train denies having any involvement with Supersonic’s (Miles Gaston Villanueva) death. He then proceeds to meet with Blue Hawk (Nick Wechsler) about his heavy handedness with non-white suspects. Blue Hawk agrees to make a public apology to the Black community at Trenton to resolve the matter. The televised public apology ends in a heated argument where Blue Hawk physically retaliates against several innocent bystanders and seriously injures them including A-Train’s brother Nathan (Christian Keyes).
At the hospital, Little Nina (Katia Winter) demands Frenchie to take another assassination job as payment and compensation for the deaths of her associates and the impact that has had on her business empire. Frenchie ignores Nina’s order and spends time with Kimiko. Homelander and Queen Maeve also have a confrontation!
Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) has an explosive arrival in America and The Boys go looking for him. They seek advice from The Legend (Paul Reiser) and learn that Soldier Boy might not be too happy with his ex-girlfriend Crimson Countess (Laurie Holden).
Verdict: 8/10. The story proceeds even faster than before. There is no turning back now – events are in motion! Yes they have deviated from the source material but I do not mind that, provided it is done in the correct manner and in this case they have filled the show with news twists and turns that viewers (and comic book readers) will not be expected especially with Homelander and Butcher- two sides of the same twisted coin, acting out their paranoias and obsessions. Just how this unravels (especially with another series green-lit) remains to be seen! Next week HEROGASM!!!
