Following on from the end of Part I we find Obi-Wan Kenobi searching the planet Daiyu for Leia Organa. Daiyu seems to be an underworld capital with all communication signals blocked and all sorts of low life walking the streets. We even see an old Clone Trooper (played by Temuera Morrison) begging on the streets. His appearances freaks Kenobi out but he soon calms himself down and donates some credits to the Trooper.
We are introduced to a man named Haja Estree (Kumail Nanjiani) who operates as a con man on Daiyu. Kenobi calls him out on his actions and soon gets a lead on Leia. can he trust Estree though? I would say yes as he has far too many scenes to be done just yet!
A few scuffles later, including a run in with Vect Nokru (Flea), Kenobi has found Leia and is battling across Daiyu’s streets to get her to safety. The Grand Inquisitor and Reva clash over just how to capture Kenobi, and soon a crazy cat and mouse game unfolds!
Verdict: 7/10. As cool as it was, the episode cannot hide the fact that it relies on tropes seen in every kidnap/rescue movie ever. Also, the fact that we know the future fates of all involved removes the threat of impending doom the episode hopes to build.
Furthermore, a lot is made of the ending BUT didn’t Anakin take the title of Darth Vader as soon as he became a Sith Lord? Wasn’t he Darth Vader when he was slaughtering younglings and battling Obi-Wan on Mustafar? He was Darth Vader before the suit and I’m sure Obi-Wan was aware of that.
