The aftermath from last week’s massacre are in full view as Robot begs medical professionals to allow him to help Amanda, a.k.a. Monster Girl (Grey DeLisle-Griffin). Meanwhile Black Samson (Khary Payton) seems to die and come back to life in some weird power surge and elsewhere Mark (Steven Yeun) awakens from a coma after nearly a week. Robot (Zachary Quinto) informs the medical professionals on what they need to give Monster Girl to save her, but it involves mystic ingredients like Wolfsbane which they do not have. Robot advises them to get it!
Meanwhile we see a drunk male college student (voiced by Justin Roiland) is kidnapped.
Eve (Gillian Jacobs) covers for Mark with Amber (Zazie Beetz) telling her he got hit by a bus and soon once released from hospital Mark is off trying to make things up with her. Mark invites Amber to accompany him on his trip with William to an Upstate University weekend visit where William is visiting his ex-boyfriend, Rick Sheridan (Jonathan Groff).
Elsewhere, Debbie (Sandra Oh) has Art Rosenbaum (Mark Hamill) conduct a forensics exam on Nolan’s bloody costume. Art confirms Nolan (J.K. Simmons) was responsible for the murder of the Guardians. They both agree to keep quiet, fearing for their lives. Debbie starts drinking.
During the visit a cyborg attacks! William saves Rick from it but then needs saving himself by Invincible. Williams realises Mark is Invincible during his rescue. During the battle Invincible rips off the cyborgs helmet revealing him to be the kidnapped kid from earlier. Upon seeing his reflection in the water commits suicide by impaling himself on a sundial.
Following the battle Mark appears claiming he was off calling the police; Amber is angry though and believes Mark ditched them to save himself. This leads to a big argument and Amber deciding to attend a college frat party. As Mark is about to speak to Amber at the party, he gets a phone call from William who is in trouble.
Invincible trails William to the sewers where he is attacked by cyborgs. It turns out Rick is one of the cyborgs. He is part of several experiments carried out by D.A. Sinclair (Ezra Miller). William gets Rick to override his programming by reminding him of the times they spent together. Following the battle Cecil (Walton Goggins) arrives to clean things up and notes Sinclair’s technology overwhelmed Invincible’s Viltrumite physiology.
Later we see the Mauler Twins (Kevin Michael Richardson) digging up Immortal from his grave for insurance in case Robot betrays them.
Verdict: 7/10. An exposition heavy episode that explores the deeper relationships between all the major characters. Tension is sure starting to build and with two episodes left of Season 1 it will not be long before everything explodes!
