Created by Lawrence Gordon and Rick Husky, The Renegades ran for six episodes starting in March 1983. It aimed to combine The Warriors/Wanderes gang vibe with a Police drama (in the vein of The Mod Squad) as The Renegades were a street gang that becomes a special police undercover unit in order to avoid jail time! The series followd on from the TV movie of the same name from the previous year.
The gang were led by Bandit (Patrick Swayze), and included Eagle (Randy Brooks), J.T. (Paul Mones), Tracy (Tracy Scoggins), Dancer (Robert Thaler), Dragon (Brian Tochi), and Gaucho (Angel Granados Jr. in the pilot then played by Fausto Bara).
The renegades answered to Captain Scanlon (Kurtwood Smith) and Lt. Marciano (James Luisi).
Through the short lived seried The renegades investigated college athletes suspected of point-shaving, car strippers who use souped-up cars to evade the police, prisoners being trained to crack sophisticated safes, extortion, police corruption, murder, and in the final episode they must face down an escaped drug pusher wants Lt. Marciano to surrender to him or else there will be a blood bath in the streets!
