Zapped

Zapped is a British sci-fi/fantasy sitcom that takes place in both in the real world and in a town called Munty which exists in a medieval fantasy world. The series debuted in October 2016 and has currently ran for three seasons.

The show follows the adventures of Brian Weaver (played by James Buckley), a temporary office worker who takes delivery of a package addressed to someone in a place called Munty. Brian opens the package to find an amulet. He puts it on and is teleported to Munty.

In Munty magic is real and Brian is initially shocked by this. He also discovers Munty is a Police state with its laws enforced by fairies. The fairies though are not stereotypical fantasy fairies. they are instead huge thuggish hairy men.

Brain finds solace in the local pub “The Jug and the Other Jug” ran by Herman (Louis Emerick) and in a magic emporium ran by Howell – a dodgy magician played by Paul Kaye. Whilst hanging around these places, Brian also befriends the half-giant half-dwarf Munty resident Steg Steggson (played by Kenneth Collard ) and Barbara (played by Sharon Rooney) , a useless soothsayer who is attracted to Brian.

The three episodes of series one focus on his attempts to get back to the real world and the revelation that he is not missed at all by his real world colleagues, who do not like him.

The second season has Brian locked up and charged with starting the snail wars. Steg persuades him to opt for trial by combat against a terrifying warrior called Radnok (played by Rob Reinaldo). Later Brian is desperate to reach the City of a Thousand Towers before the Super Solstice, so ingratiates himself with a company of travelling players who are in town to perform the annual Munty Play. The Super Solstice could send him home…
