Born in 1964, Jeff Beltzner aka Brick Bronsky, gained fame as an American actor, film producer, professional wrestler and sports promoter. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Health and Physical Education.
Bronsky’s love of health and physical education began as a teenager when he became interested in body-building and weight lifting. He soon won many state and tri-state power lifting competitions and took the title Mr Teenage Pennsylvania in 1984. This qualified him for the Mr. America contest, however, Bronsky declined to participate in the event. “I just wasn’t interested,” he recalled in an interview years later: “to me it’s not a sport; it’s a male beauty contest.”
It was at Penn State that he met his future tag team partner Doug Flex. Both men shared a mutual interest in bodybuilding and professional wrestling and would eventually enter the business together. Following his graduation, he worked as a child-care worker for the Lehigh County Detention Home before enrolling in a wrestling camp run by Brad Rheingans, a champion amateur wrestler and competitor at the 1976 Olympics.
Bronsky subsequently traveled to Canada where he wrestled as Mr. Canada for the next two and-a-half years; Doug Flex later claimed that “Jeff was as popular as Hulk Hogan is in the United States.”
Bronsky’s most high profile moment at that time was during his in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, often appearing on its weekly television program, and was “probably the strongest guy in the territory at the time.” He received additional training from Mr. Hito, joining him in several six-man matches, and faced many of the toughest Stampede veterans such as Bad News Allen, Gerry Morrow, Great Gama Singh and Steve DiSalvo in late-1987 and 1988.
At the age of 22, Bronsky returned to the United States to wrestle for the World Wrestling Federation as a preliminary wrestler. He was eventually offered a contract after six months. Unhappy with his experience in the WWF, he declined the offer. His biggest appearences for WWF were on April 5th 1989 teaming with Terry Daniels to lose against The Brain Busters – Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard on an episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge, and teaming with Paul Roma the following month, billed as Jeff Gronsky, to loose to The Brain Busters once again:
Whilst recovering from his bicep injury, Bronsky auditioned for Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. (1990) where he put in a standout performance as the thug-for-hire Jughead. The following year he starred in Class of Nuke ‘Em High 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown (1991), alongside co-star Leesa Rowland, as student journalist Roger Smith. Though the film received mixed reviews, Bronsky’s performance gained favorable receptions from critics.
Bronsky himself, who performed all his own stunts, credited Troma for making him a better performer when he resumed his pro wrestling career in the mid-1990’s. He returned for a multi-role piece in Class of Nuke ‘Em High 3: The Good, the Bad and the Subhumanoid in 1994.
In between wrestling Bronsky has also appeared in Death Match (1994), The Quest (1996), Troma’s Edge TV (2000), Spin Cycle (2000) and Return to Nuke’Em High Volume 1 in 2013.
Sadly, Bronski went into a coma on August 22, 2021. The following day, it was announced on Hannibal TV that Beltzner died at the age of 57 due to COVID-19 in the morning hours of August 23rd 2021. His death was also confirmed by fellow Stampede Wrestling alumnus Jonathan Holliday.
