Created by and starring Robert Blake, Hell Town follows Catholic priest Noah “Hardstep” Rivers (Blake). Noah’s church is located on the east side of the Los Angeles rivers in a not too friendly region of the city. Just how Noah copes in such an rough and violent neighborhood is revealed when Noah’s journey to priesthood is revealed. It seems before becoming a priest Noah was a gambling billiards playing criminal. Also, Noah grew up in that neighborhood, so he is more than aware of the gangs and drug dealers and all the other problems that face his parishioners (with a new one appearing every week!).
Hell Town debuted in September 1985 (although the Pilot episode aired earlier in March the same year) and ran for 15 episodes. Besides Blake the show also featured Whitman Mayo as One Ball, Jeff Corey as Lawyer Sam, Natalie Core as Mother Maggie, Vonetta McGee as Sister Indigo, Isabel Grandin as Sister Angel Cakes, Tony Longo as Stump, Rhonda Dodson as Sister Daisy, and Zitto Kazann as Crazy Horse.
Other stars who popped up during the season included Don Stroud, Clarence Williams III, Jeanette Nolan, Sunshine Parker, Don Calfa, George Chakiris, James Brown III, Rick Goldman, Ann Doran, Meeno Peluce, Theodore Bikel, Bibi Besch, Jill Schoelen, and Donna Wilkes.
