Brand New Cherry Flavor Ep. 5: Jennifer

BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOR (L to R) DANIEL DOHENY as JONATHAN in episode 105 of BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOR Cr. COURTESY OF NETFLIX © 2021

In Brand New Cherry Flavor Ep. 5: Jennifer, Lisa (Rosa Salazar) finally finds Jennifer’s husband Mike Nathan (Leland Orser) and takes him Boro’s (Catherine Keener) house. Upon confronting Boro she simply replies, “You know me as Boro, he knows me as Jennifer.” Boro then states that to provide Lisa with the reasons as to why she left she must take both Lisa and Mike back to Mike’s home.

When back at the house Boro cooks’ dinner for her family. They all eventually pass out due to Boro poisoning them, Boro explains to Lisa that she is “not Jennifer, although I always liked her name.” Boro explains that she can only change bodies every few decades, but she wanted someone simple this time and that is what she chose Lisa. Boro then performs a memory extraction on the family and wants Lisa to help her but Lisa storms off puking up another kitten on the way out.

Meanwhile Lou is trying to find out more about about Lisa so tracks down the location of Lisa’s movie.  Upon visiting the house that it was filmed in he is confronted by an eye-patch wearing Mary Gray (Siena Werber). Mary confesses that due to the number of drugs she and Lisa had taken, Mary has no memory of what happened during filming.

Lisa goes to visit Jules in hospital and discovers Jonathan (Daniel Doheny) is following her. She takes him to the hospital where his mother Veronica (Leah Cairns) finds him and takes him home believing he is on drugs. Once home he starts eating dog food from a bowl. Lou blames Lisa so hires James (Sean Owen Roberts) and Ralph (Darcy Laurie) kill Lisa.

As the episode ends Lou is showing Mary the movie Lisa made where she is horrified to discover that she ripped out her own eye and ate it. Whilst at the same time James strangles Lisa apparently to death. We are then here a woman speaking what I think is Portuguese as Lisa crawls to Jonathan. She wants him to take her to Boro!

Verdict: 8/10. Some of the mysteries are becoming unravelled with new layers being added at the same time. I feel this is the point in the series where it will either get better or get worse. I am more than hopeful that it will be getting better!
