Cobra Kai Season 3 ep. 10: “December 19” – the title comes from December 19th 1984 is the date of the All Valley Karate Tournament in The Karate Kid. So it is the anniversary of that event and what an anniversary!
This episode picks up straight after Ep 9: Feel The Night with Ali (Elisabeth Shue) and Johnny (William Zabka) bumping into Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) at the Christmas party. Johnny bumping into the waiter in his white jacket during his entrance is almost word-for-word what Daniel says to a waiter in the Karate Kid.
The four trade tells of yesteryear with Ali revealing how her and Daniel split up. Ali later puts Daniel and Johnny in their places explaining they both have their version of whatever happened between them, and the truth is somewhere in the middle. The impact of Ali finally puts Daniel and Johnny on their way to being on the same page!
Whilst all this is taking place Tory (Peyton List) leads Cobra Kai in an attack on the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang students at the LaRusso residence. during the attack Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) turns on his Cobra Kai peers and Sam (Mary Mouser) conquers her fear of Tory; also, Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) triumphs over his limitations to defeat Kyler (Joe Seo).
Johnny and Daniel separately learn about the fight and rush to the Cobra Kai dojo…
Verdict: 10. The episode had everything. Soaked with Karate Kid mythology we get callbacks through all three of the original movies (plus more on Kreece in Vietnam) and how actions of the past impact the futures of all involved and their children. Thanks to Ali though, it looks like the future might be brighter for Daniel and Johnny – the ying-yang is whole! Roll on Season 4.
