Marc Singer

Marc Singer was born on January 29th 1948 in Vancouver, British Columbia and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. His parents both had a strong interest in music. His father Jacques Singer, was a symphony conductor whilst his mother Leslie was a concert pianist. Marc has two brothers, Claude and Gregory, and one sister, Lori, an actress and cellist who appeared in Footloose, Fame, and Warlock amongst others. He is the cousin of film director Bryan Singer.

Jacque took Marc to see a production of the William Shakespeare’s Richard III with Sir Laurence Olivier and this had a big impact on March leaving a long lasting  impression but Marc did not actually begin acting until a teacher recruited him to fill a suddenly vacant role in his junior year of high school.

Marc’s first major acting role was in 1973 when he played a young doctor in the Columbo episode Double Shock. He followed this up the following year by playing Christian de Neuvillette in Cyrano de Bergerac; then as Dalton in the Planet of the Apes TV Series episode The Gladiators. Appearances followed Nakia, Things in their Season, Journey From Darkness, Hawaii Five-O, Barnaby Jones, The Rookies, Jigsaw John, and The Taming of The Shrew.

Through the late 1970’s Marc continued to clock up appearances in Something For Joey, The Feather and Father Gang, Never Con A Killer, Harold Robbins’ 79 Park Avenue, What Really Happened to the Class of ’65?, Go Tell the Spartans, Sergeant Matlovich vs. the U.S. Air Force, and Visions.

In 1979 Marc was cast as Andy Warner in the mini-series ROOTS: The Next Generations; he was also cast as Johnny Captor in another TV mini-series The Contender in 1980.

As the 1980’s rolled in Marc was about to experience a career high. In 1982 he was cast as Dar in The Beastmaster (a role he later reprised for two sequels as well a different role in The Beastmaster TV series). Dar was the last known survivor of his tribe who he left wandering ancient lands seeking out his beloved Kiri (Tanya Roberts). Dar is able to communicate with animals and uses them to help him on his quest.

Then came the role of Mike Donovan in the 1983 miniseries V, the 1984 sequel V: The Final Battle, and the TV series V: The Series. The show would become a global sensation with Marc even getting a role in 2011 reboot as a bid to increase its popularity.

Other roles followed in CHiPS, If You Could See What I Hear, Watchers II, High Desert Kill, The Fier, Dead Space, Dallas; The Twilight Zone; The Hitchhiker; Simon & Simon; Murder, She Wrote; The Young and the Restless; The Ray Bradbury Theater and Highlander: The Series. Marc also voiced the character of Man-Bat on Batman: The Animated Series, and has also lent his voice in The Legend of Prince Valiant.

More recently Marc has been seen regularly in Beauty and the Beast as Peter Braxton and as General Matthew Shrieve in Arrow.

It would seem that Marc is showing no signs of slowing down and will remain on the Cult Faction radar for a long time to come.
