TekWar was a science fiction television series that aired from 1994 to 1996, with a total of 22 episodes produced Based on the book series by William Shatner (ghost written by Ron Goulart based on Shatner’s plot outlines). It takes place in the 22nd century where everything is centred on “Tek”—an illegal, addictive, mind-altering digital drug in the form of a microchip. Tek creates a simulated reality hyperspace “matrix.”
The main character of TekWar was ex-cop turned private investigator, Jake Cardigan (Greg Evigan), who is sentenced to 15 years cryogenic freezing after being wrongly accused of a crime. When he is released, Jake is contacted by Sid Gomez (Eugene Clark), his former partner, who is now in the private sector, working as an investigator for the large security firm Cosmos. Sid reveals that it was Cosmos’s CEO, Walter Bascom (William Shatner), who arranged to have him released early, Jake agrees to meet him and agrees to work for Bascom as a private investigator going after Tek Lords, in return for Bascom’s help in clearing his name.
The series also starred Catherine Blythe as Centra and featured Sheena Easton, Sandahl Bergman, Richard Chevolleau, Noam Jenkins, Melanie Shatner, Nicole de Boer, Tanya Allen, Maria del Mar, Natalie Radford, Maurice Dean Wint, Lexa Doig and Dana Brooks amongst others.
Despite a cult following, TekWar was cancelled after just two seasons due to declining ratings.
