Gary Jones

Gary Jones was born on 4th January 1958 in Swansea, Wales, U.K. He joined the improv group “Mission Improvable.” the in the mid-1980’s he joined Toronto’s Second City Improv Company. In 1986 with Second City he went to Vancouver for Expo 86, where they performed for six months at the Expo’s Flying Club. After the Expo was finished, Jones stayed in Vancouver, where he soon got a role in TV series Danger Bay.

Jones followed this up with role of Davis in the Airwolf episode Rogue Warrior, then appeared in Wiseguy and 21 Jump Street.

During 1990-91 G.I. Joe cartoon series Jones provided many additional voices, and also landed roles in Glory Days, The New Adventures of the Black Stallion, Relentless: Mind of a Killer, The Commish, The Substitute, Sleeping with Strangers, Andre, The Marshal and Double, Double Toil and Trouble.

In 1995, Jones appeared in Channel 92, The Outer Limits (in two separate episodes), and Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco. Then between 1995-1996 Jones was cast as Michael Hurley in the show Sliders. Hurley worked at the Doppler Computer Store, and was the boss of Quinn Mallory (Jerry O’Connell) and Wade Welles (Sabrina Lloyd) until they went sliding (September 27th 1994 in the TV Pilot). On that day, Quinn’s double arrived on Earth Prime, and made some remarks to Mr. Hurley that got Quinn fired.

An alternate version of Mr. Hurley is in the second part of the pilot. On an alternate Earth where, in 1994, the United States is a territory of the Soviet Union, Michael Hurley is part of an underground American revolutionary group, and is under the command of this world’s Wade Welles.

Jones reprises the role of Hurley appears in the episode “Prince of Wails,” on a world where the United States lost the Revolutionary War, and in 1995 is the “British States of America.” Hurley works for this world’s version of Maximilian Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), and was part of a plot to assassinate Prince Harold, heir to the British throne on that particular Earth.

More roles followed in Bloodhounds II, William Shatner Lent Me His Hairpiece: An Untrue Story, Highlander, Murder at the Door, The Sentinel, The Sixth Man, The Net, and Poltergeist: The Legacy.

Then in 1997 came the role of Walter Harriman in Stargate SG-1. As CMSgt. Walter Harriman, Jones would develop the role through the entire 10 year run of Stargate SG-1, and continue it through Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, and the spinoff movies! His latest appearance (to date) as Harriman was 2009, meaning that Jones played the role for 12 years over three series!
