Transformers: Victory was an anime series produced by Toei Animation. It is a Japanese-produced spin-off of the well-known original Transformers cartoon, and the final complete animated series from what later became known as the “Generation 1” era. It ran for 44 episodes in 1989, although initially there were 32 episodes. Later the broadcast series padded it out with six clip shows inserted through the run. Then after the end of the series, another six additional clip shows were created by Masumi Kaneda, which were available only through home video and rare broadcasts.
The series follows the new Autobot Supreme Commander, Star Saber, defending the Earth against the forces of Deathsaurus, the Decepticons’ new Emperor of Destruction who desires the planet’s energy to reactivate his massive planet-destroying fortress, sealed away in the Dark Nebula long ago by Star Saber.
The show followed an episodic adventure mindset which allowed little to alter the status quo of the series thus they could be shown out-of-order. There was a heavy emphasis on action, complemented by dynamic animation. Its cast consists almost entirely of brand new characters with some guest appearances from Perceptor and Wheeljack amongst others.
