Lisa Loring (born Lisa Ann DeCinces) was born on February 16th 1958 in Kwajalein Atoll, Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (now Marshall Islands). She made her TV debut as Cindy Norcross in Dr. Kildare in 1964, but it was her role as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family that brought her to the attention of audiences around the world. In the series, Loring played the role of the dark and macabre daughter of the Addams family, a role that became iconic in the world of television.
She would also appear as Susan “Suzy” Pruitt in The Pruitts of Southampton, where the Pruitt family lived like royalty in Long Island, but were really flat broke and scraping by. Each episode saw the Pruitt’s trying to appear rich whilst launching their next scheme to get rich!
Following her role in The Girl from U.N.C.L.E., Loring reprised her role of Wednesday in 1977’s Halloween with the New Addams Family, a television special that featured the Addams family as they celebrate Halloween with a variety of spooky and festive activities. The special was considered to be a pilot for a potential revival series, but it was not picked up by any television network. The plot of the special revolves around the Addams family as they prepare for their annual Halloween celebration. Wednesday Addams and Pugsley Addams are excited to show off their costumes, while Morticia Addams prepares a Halloween feast for the family. Gomez’s brother Pancho (Henry Darrow) is also visiting, whilst Uncle Fester is determined to find the perfect Halloween present for the family, and Gomez Addams is on a mission to find the scariest Halloween decorations. Throughout the special, the Addams family experiences a series of Halloween mishaps, villains trying to replace them, and adventures, adding to the overall spooky and comedic tone of the episode. The special also features several musical numbers, adding to the festive and fun atmosphere. The special was well-received by audiences and fans of the series with the episode being praised for its entertaining and lighthearted approach to the holiday, as well as its humorous and nostalgic tone.
Further roles followed in Fantasy Island, Barnaby Jones, As The World Turns, Blood Frenzy, and her last movie, 2015’s Doctor Spine.
Throughout her career, Loring has received recognition for her talent and dedication to her craft. She has received numerous awards and nominations for her performances, including the Young Artist Awards. Loring has reflected on her career and has expressed gratitude for the opportunities she has had to work in the entertainment industry. She has also made comments about the impact of “The Addams Family” on her life and career, stating that the role of Wednesday Addams will always hold a special place in her heart.
Sadly, Loring passed away at the age of 64 years old on January 28th 2023 from a stroke caused by high blood pressure. The sad news was broken by her daughter Vanessa Foumberg to The Hollywood Reporter. Vanessa stated that “She went peacefully with both her daughters holding her hands…She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams.”
