Ms. Marvel has arrived and all worries and reservations, about the show, have been blown away in a glorious technicolour blast of cosmic contentment! Iman Vellani is a revelation to the tv screen, her interpretation of Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel is a warm and friendly one making the show accessible to all in the process.
As the series begins, we are introduced to Khan and her best friend Bruno Carrelli (Matt Lintz) who are planning` to attend the Avengers convention “AvengerCon.” Khan’s parents are against her going so the duo must sneak there.
Meanwhile, Khan receives a package from her grandmother and is mesmerised by a golden bangle that is contained within. She takes the bangle to the convention, intending to use it as part of her Captain Marvel cosplay.
As Khan prepares to get on stage, she puts the bangle on and gets Green Lantern like powers in return. What happens next is just the first step in her superhero journey that we are lucky enough to take with her.
Verdict: 9/10. Vellani is amazing at capturing Khan’s wide eyed superhero dreams. The whole episode brings one of Marvel’s more recent and lesser-known characters to life and it is Vellani who carries all that weight on her shoulders. With so many shows dropping over the last week or so it was always going to be difficult to stand out with a fresh untested character, but Ms. Marvel does more than stand out it clears them out the way and leads the audience to an area of the MCU that so far has remained untouched. I look forward to Ms. marvel’s further interactions with the MCU.
