Brand New Cherry Flavor Ep. 2: Hair of the Dog follows on directly from the end of Episode 1 with Boro (Catherine Keener) telling Lisa (Rosa Salazar) that in order for their deal to work, Lisa must open up to the spirit world. To help that happen, Boro questions Lisa’s upbringing and learns that Lisa has never met her mother. Boro informs Lisa that as part of the curse against Lou (Eric Lange) she must take part in a bonding ritual that involves eating a stew, getting a photograph of Lou, a pinch of his pubic hair and returning back to Boro by 11pm!
Meanwhile, Lou shows Lisa’s movie short to Roy Hardaway (Jeff Ward), who believes that the movie cannot be made without Lisa’s involvement.
Lisa asks Code for help in obtaining her list and he recommends two criminals named James (Sean Owen Roberts) and Ralph (Darcy Laurie). They travel to Lou’s house and pretend to be agents and barge past Lou’s housekeeper. Lisa begins to search the house, but she is affected by the stew she ate which is now having kicking in! After some weird visions and a run in with Lou’s son the housekeeper calls the police and Lisa is arrested.
Whilst in the cell the other women warn Lisa of the dangers of being in debt to Boro. Then just as a fight is about to start Lisa vomits up a kitten. Before anyone can react, Lisa is bailed out by Roy. Upon returning to her apartment, she is visited by Lou, who has since recruited James and Ralph after they tried to pawn his Oscar. Lou mocks the curse and lets Lisa rip out some of pubes!
Lisa reaches Boro with 30 minutes to spare and engages in the ritual. She is shocked to discover the initial cat she vomited out is now full size. After the ritual is completed Boro takes some blood from the car and drinks it!
Verdict: 6/10. A weird but sometimes drawn-out episode that focuses on the curse. Again, like episode one I think you may get more out of this episode when you are watching it a second time after completing the series. Not a bad watch by any means, but after everything from Episode 1 I was expecting to fall further down the rabbit hole!
