Brand New Cherry Flavor Ep. 3: Roman Candle begins with Lisa (Rosa Salazar) waking up in her apartment which now has some lovely vines growing all up in the place! The water is green too but that might not be the vines just the water in the area she lives in!
Lou (Eric Lange) appears and offers Lisa a job as Associate Producer boasting that his new movie (based on Lisa’s!) is being touted by critics as box office magic. He also invites her to a party at his place. After he leaves Lisa vomits up another kitten! Then Boro (Catherine Keener) pops in and Lisa tells her all her disappointment that the curse is not working. Lisa is annoyed she is the one having nightmares and visions whilst Lou is getting off lightly. Boro advises Lisa to keep watching and that something may happen soon.
Later Boro offers Lisa the chance to speed things up with Lou. Boro points out that once the vines in Lisa’s apartment begin flowering, she just needs to put those seeds inside Lou’s drink. Also, a strange trapdoor appears in Lisa’s floor!
Lisa attends Lou’s party with Roy Hardaway (Jeff Ward) and as she heads to Lou to slip him the flower seeds, she is cut off, but Boro who introduces Lisa to Denise (Crystal Albert) – “who happens to be dead.”
Lou then reveals that he is screening a movie tonight and invites everyone into his screening room. Lisa grows more angrier when she realises it is her film he is showing. Lou makes out he discovered the film and introduces Jules Brandenberg (Jayson Blair) as the director.
Following the screening Lisa gets the flower seeds into Lou’s coke stash but he convinces her to have a line too. Later Lou starts to feel the effects of the seeds as Lisa stares angrily at Jules who suddenly bursts into flames. Jules jumps into the pool, but it is too late, he is burnt to death!
Verdict: 7/10. A much more free-flowing episode that adds layers to the mystery and starts spinning the wheels of revenge. It appears events are now in motion and just how they play out might not be how Lisa intended!
