In 1988 Dean Stockwell was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Married to the Mob. Dennis Hopper advised him not to take on a television role so soon after being nominated. Stockwell didn’t listen, and went on to be nominated for four Emmys, and four Golden Globes, winning in 1990. Stockwell received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 29th, 1992. Fans of Quantum Leap organized this Leap Day ceremony.
Throughout the series, Sam Beckett often encountered implied younger versions of various celebrities, and other figures including Buddy Holly, Woody Allen, Michael Jackson, Stephen King, Sylvester Stallone and Bill Clinton.
Creator Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum P.I., Tales of the Gold Monkey, Airwolf, NCIS) wrote the Quantum Leap Season Five episodes “Lee Harvey Oswald Parts 1 and 2”, after his children came home from watching the film JFK discussing conspiracy theories. Bellisario had met Lee Harvey Oswald when they were both in the Marines in the late 1950s and from the conversation he had, believed Oswald was the lone gunman. The meeting was included in the second episode with Matthew Charles Nelson playing Bellisario.
Bellisario was talking about rebooting the show with Sam’s daughter carrying on the leaping mantle.
In October 2017 during a panel discussion at a Comic Con event in LA Bellisario announced “I just finished writing a Quantum Leap feature…I don’t know what’s going to happen with it, but I did write it.”
Oh, Boy!
