It is Cult Faction’s sad news to announce that actor John Shrapnel passed away on February 14th 2020 at the age of 77 years old following a battle with cancer.
John has esteemed career on both stage and the big and small screen and Cult Faction readers might recognise him from appearances in Space: 1999, Z Cars, Edward & Mrs. Simpson, Armchair Thriller, How to Get Ahead in Advertising, Blackeyes, Centrepoint, G.B.H., Selling Hitler, The Strange Encounters and Timeless Wanderings of a Man Called ‘R’, Coogan’s Run, 101 Dalmatians, Invasion: Earth, Notting Hill, The 10th Kingdom, Gladiator, K-19: The Widowmaker, Spinechillers, Troy, Alien Autopsy, and Waking the Dead.
Shrapnel was the son-in-law of British film actress Deborah Kerr and film and television executive Tony Bartley, through his 1975 marriage to their younger daughter Francesca Ann Bartley. He and Francesca have three sons, the writer Joe Shrapnel, and the actors Lex and Tom. Shrapnel lived the last years of his life, with his family in Highbury, north London.
