Locke and Key Ep. 2: Trapper/Keeper

The second episode of Locke and Key begins with the Locke children reconfriming that their mother Nina (Darby Stanchfield) has no recollection at all of being trapped in the Mirror. Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) theorises it is because she is an adult and adults do not believe in things.

Meanwhile at school Tyler (Connor Jessup) takes an interest in Jackie (Genevieve Kang), while Kinsey (Emilia Jones) struggles to fit in until she meets Scot (Petrice Jones) and the “Savini Squad” who are trying to make a budget horror film, and cautiously joins them.

At home, Bode fears that Echo will return, and with the aid of Rufus (Coby Bird), the young caretaker of the Key House grounds, sets a trap for her. Unfortunately things do not go as planned. Later Bode finds another key, and after seeing a keyhole on the back of a store clerk’s neck (Tom Savini), tries to use it on himself, just as Tyler and Kinsey arrive home. They find that Bode has used the Head key, allowing them to enter a representation of his mind!

Verdict: 7/10. The Tom Savini cameo was a nice touch and there were some nice moments in this episode that showed us the characters we have in front of us in more depth. Some parts of this episode really did drag though. I would of preferred if they dialled back on the teenage angst school drama and focused more on the Key House and the mysteries that surround it.
