Godzilla (1978)

“Up from the depths, thirty stories high, breathing fire – his head in the sky!

Godzilla! – Godzilla! …and Godzooky!”

Debuting on September 9th 1978 Godzilla (which nowadays is referred to as Godzilla: The Original Animated Series) was developed by Dick Robbins and Duane Poole for Hanna-Barbera. It ran for two seasons (26 episodes) and followed a team of scientists who lived on the Calico, a hydrofoil research vessel.

The crew of the Calico included Captain Carl Majors (voiced by Jeff David), Dr. Quinn Darien (voiced by Brenda Thompson), her nephew Pete Darien (voiced by Al Eisenmann), her research assistant Brock Borden (voiced by Hilly Hicks) and Godzilla’s “clown” nephew Godzooky (voiced by Don Messick). Whenever the crew is in trouble they can signal Godzilla (voiced by Ted Cassidy) by pressing the button on a special signal device or by getting Godzooky to roar for his uncle. Although it’s never outright stated in the show, the crew befriended Godzilla by having rescued his nephew Godzooky once.

Through their adventures Godzilla and the Calico crew faced off against The Fire Bird, The Earth Eater, The Megavolt Monster, The Seaweed Monster, The Energy Beast, The Colossus of Atlantis and a whole lot more!
