The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show
Produced by Ruby-Spears Productions, The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show ran between 1979 and 1981 and lasted for twenty-nine episodes. Whilst globally the show just focussed on Plastic Man, in the U.S. version the show featured many segments including Plastic Man, Baby Plas, Plastic Family, Mighty Man and Yukk, Fangface and Fangpuss, and Rickety Rocket. The show often featured a live-action Plastic Man, played by Taylor Marks.
During the entire run of the show Plastic Man’s origin is never clearly explained but it is hinted at the he was originally the small-time crook known as Patrick “Eel” O’Brian who reformed after he was left for dead by the mob and gained plastic stretch powers.
In each episode Plastic Man (voiced by Michael Bell), his girlfriend Penny (Melendy Britt), and his Polynesian sidekick Hula-Hula (Joe Baker) – travel the world solving crimes given to them by the Chief. At the beginning of the series Penny has a crush on Plastic Man, and by the second series Plastic Man and Penny get married and have a son who has the same powers as Plastic Man and is known as “Baby Plas.”
