Created by Glen A. Larson and Lou Shaw, Half Nelson debuted in March 1985 but only lasted eight episodes. The series followed Rocky Nelson (Joe Pesci), a former New York City cop who moved to Beverly Hills to become an actor.
Whilst awaiting his big break (the joke being Nelson is too short to be a film star) Nelson gets a job at a private security service, Beverly Hills Patrol, who cater for Hollywood’s rich and famous (including Dean Martin playing a version of himself!).
As to be expected though, occasionally the odd mystery pops up requiring Nelson to fall back into cop mode and help solve whatever crime has been committed, much to the chagrin of his boss and the local Police Department.
The show regularly featured Fred Williamson, Bubba Smith, Dick Butkus, Victoria Jackson, as well as appearances from John Saxon, Susan Walden, Liam Sullivan, Jon Cypher, Tony Curtis, George Kennedy and Rory Calhoun.
