He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002)

Running for two seasons (39 episodes) between 2002 and 2004, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was a reimagining of the classic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon series that was developed for television by Michael Halperin, who created the original series and was animated by Mike Young Productions. Also, the series brought back several writers from the original series including Larry DiTillio who brought the show back to its roots and provided broader explorations never reached in the original series, including origins for each character (especially Skeletor!) and the introduction of many others.

As the first season opens we find a peaceful Eternia ruled over by King Randor. All evil has been banished and trapped behind the mystic wall in the badlands near Snake Mountain. Unfortunately, after many years Skeletor breaks through the mystic wall seeking revenge!

Luckily, Skeletor’s presence is detected within Castle Grayskull by the Sorceress, who informs Man-At-Arms, captain of the guards within Randor’s kingdom that the time has come for destiny to be fulfilled!

We then meet the spoilt and carefree Prince Adam –  heir to his father King Radnor’s throne. Adam is being trained by Teela but is not taking it as seriously as he should. Suddenly Teela’s father, Man-At-Arms, arrives and Adam to Castle Grayskull. There, Adam learns from the Sorceress of an approaching evil and his role in defending the kingdom as the warrior He-Man.

Adam, of course, instantly rebuffs the responsibility and returns to the palace, where he finds that Skeletor’s forces have captured his father…
