Over the last few years, our fascination with the living dead has developed into a kind of obsession. For a while, only George Romero and various members of his creative posse were excused for continuing the zombie stomp. Now, anyone can…and does. There are TV shows, documentaries, video games, and even music centered on these flesh eating former members of the human race. Perhaps the best example of the offshoots remains the comedy, an already established horror subdivision which has as many fans as more serious fare. For comic book-reading, Zom-com lovers, Lesbian Zombies from Outer Space is a limited-series where arch male sexual fantasies become nightmares. Really, what did you expect? It’s called Lesbian Zombies from Outer Space. It has the Lesbians, it has the Zombies and oh yes, they’re from Outer Space.
When the women of his home town start turning into monstrously sexy lesbian zombies, Ace Johnson teams with an unlikely friend to escape town and stop the apocalypse. The series features tonnes of on-panel same-sex smooching, nudity, and crude (some would find offensive) humour.There is a distinct ‘Troma’ feel to this romp making it a gory, ludicrous delight. It’s fast-paced, gut-wrenching, disgusting, adrenalin-pushing and ultra-funny. The bloodshed is inventive, over the top and yet anchored in good old fashioned slapstick, so that you can’t help but laugh.
”Lesbian Zombies from Outer Space” isn’t all dumb and sophomoric; in fact, there’s plenty of intelligence going on behind the scenes, and it isn’t hard to see. With fast-paced, edgy action the creators come off as having a ton of fun here, and this playful nature complements the distinctly farcical side of the story. The gory mash-up of two very different comic book genres work well. Each character has their own look and feel and the colour palette similarly sets the tone for a story where women are portrayed as deadly seductresses and the men are incompetent tools. LZFOS is a hoot if you’re willing to simply sit back and be tickled in special areas. Sure it’s crude and relies mostly on the humour of men drooling over breasts —but that’s the point, and it’s downright fun and engaging if you’re open to such stupidity. If you’re after male fantasy humour personified, this is definitely for you!
