Spike TV’s Red Mars lands J. Michael Straczynski

It is being reported that Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski will write Red Mars, the Spike TV drama based on Kim Stanley Robinson’s bestselling Mars trilogy.

Announced in September, the series tells the story of man’s attempt to colonize and terraform the red planet. Named for the first novel, Red Mars is said to focus on the question at the heart of Robinson’s trilogy: What’s it mean to be human when we’re no longer of Earth?

Vince Gerardis of HBO’s Game of Thrones is executive producing, with Robinson serving as consultant.
