Telltale Games developed a prequel to Willingham’s Fables with the The Wolf Among Us, and the game is first-person oriented, with point-and-click action that allows the player control of protagonist Bigby Wolf. The game allows you (Bigby) to have an adventure whereby you are free to move about the Fables environment and interact with other characters or objects. The angle is that your choices in the game can affect parallel events within the game’s narrative. In other words, your actions have consequences that you learn about, and can later regret. Pain is more terrible when you find out you could have avoided it.
Now imagine that same remorse channelled into Fables: The Wolf Among Us #1 .Vertigo’s first-ever digital-first series that is both an adaptation and expansion of the video game.
Written by Matthew Sturges and Dave Justus, it’s illustrated by Steve Sadowski, Shawn McManus, and Travis Moore. The story joins Bigby and Snow White together in a murder mystery that has them hoping they can crack the case before the Woodsman finds them, and chops them up into kindling.
