Mickey Jones (born June 10, 1941) was an American musician and actor; you will have seen Mickey Jones even if you just do not realise it!
His career as a drummer had him backing up such artists and bands as Trini Lopez, Johnny Rivers, Bob Dylan, and The First Edition with Kenny Rogers.
In 1966, Jones was made an offer by Bob Dylan to join him as his drummer. Replacing Levon Helm, Jones would accompany Dylan with the other members of what would become The Band, on his world tour of Australia and Europe. It was during this tour while performing at the Manchester Free Trade Hall, England (May 17th 1966) that the audience jeered Dylan for attempting to play an electric guitar during the latter half of the show. Jones has seventeen gold records from his musical career of over two decades.
Also in 1966, Jones earned his first CULT points drumming on the track Secret Agent Man!
After the break-up of The First Edition in 1976, Jones concentrated on his career as a character actor, where he racked up numerous memorable film and television appearances, perhaps having the greatest CV in cult!
This includes numerous appearances on The Incredible Hulk, Charlie’s Angels, CHiPs, Stir Crazy, Galactica 1980, M*A*S*H, Hart to Hart, Flo, Simon & Simon, Battlestar Galactica: Conquest of the Earth, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Automan, T.J. Hooker, Hardcastle and McCormick, Starman, Extreme Prejudice, Total Recall, Tin Cup, The Fighting Temptations, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Master, The Rockford Files, V:The Final Battle, V:The Series, The A-Team, Alf, Misfits of Science, The Colbys, Life Goes On, In The Heat of the Night, Matlock, 21 Jump Street, Out on a Limb, Baywatch, Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas, Home Improvements, Northern Exposure, The District, Married…with Children, Martial Law, Boy Meets World, Lizzie McGuire, Entourage, Son of the Beach, Justified, World’s End, Bones, Revamped, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Growing Up Fisher.
I’m sure you will agree, a C.V. like that is hard to beat – that is why they call him “the character actors character actor”.
To me though, Micky Jones will always be Chris Farber alongside Ham Tyler (Michael Ironside) in V. #badass
