Every night when his mum (Kate Murray-Henderson) calls out ‘Sleep Well Jamie’, the naughty rascal gets out of bed, picks up his magic torch and with his dog, Wordsworth, travels down a helter skelter into the magical world of Cuckoo Land. With 39 fantastic stories to watch, join Jamie and Wordsworth in all three series of their exciting adventures. Presented for the first time as a complete collection on DVD.

Jamie and the Magic Torch ran from 1976-1979 and was made by the Cosgrove Hall animation studios in Manchester, the studio that brought to us other classic shows such as Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, The Wind in the Willows, Chorlton and the Wheelies and The BFG The studio was a nurturing ground for creative talent and saw such legends as Bernard Sumner (Joy Division, New Order credited as Bernard Dickin) and John Squire (The Stone Roses) working in their studios. Sumner worked at Cosgrove Hall for 3 years as a tracer and when he left Squire took over. The music on the office stereo must have been incredible.

Brian Truman who narrates the series also wrote it. Prior to writing for Cosgrove Hall films, Truman had worked as everything from an actor to a newscaster to a documentary producer. At Cosgrove Hall along with Jamie and The Magic Torch he wrote Chorlton and the Wheelies, Cockleshell Bay, Wind in the Willows, Dangermouse and Count Duckula (as well as being the voice of ‘Nanny’).

Settle down now Jamie. Come on Wordsworth, out of there.’

Jamie and Wordsworth have lots of adventures travelling down the helter skelter to Cuckoo Land and Jamie’s magical torch often helps to save the day. The pair meet some strange characters – Mr Boo, an absent-minded old gentleman, Jo-Jo, the ‘odd job’ man, Nutmeg, a rag doll, Officer Gotcha, the Cuckoo Land Constabulary, Strumpers Plunkett, Bulli Bundy and Wellibob. And all this before Jamie’s mum discovers he is missing from his bed!
