It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that Strat Trek icon Nichelle Nichols has passed away at the age of 89 years old.
Known for her role as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the Star Trek franchise, she also had roles in Peyton Place, Tarzan, Batman: The Animated Series, The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space, Gargoyles, Spider-Man, Good vs Evil, Heroes, The Simpsons, Surge of Power: The Stuff of Heroes, Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster, This Bitter Earth, Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel, The Young and the Restless, Renegades, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, White Orchid, and a whole lot more.
The sad news was broken by Nichols’ son Kyle Johnson who published a statement on her official website saying:
I regret to inform you that a great light in the firmament no longer shines for us as it has for so many years.
Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away. Her light, however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and draw inspiration.
Hers was a life well lived and as such a model for us all.
I, and the rest of our family, would appreciate your patience and forbearance as we grieve her loss until we can recover sufficiently to speak further. Her services will be for family members and the closest of her friends and we request that her and our privacy be respected.
Live Long and Prosper,
Kyle Johnson
She was once told not to quit “Star Trek” because her role was groundbreaking to young African Americans. The man who told her that Reverend Martin Luther King. May she Rest in everlasting peace !!! XOXO 😘
