It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that William Lucking passed away at the age of 80 years old back on October 18th 2021 at his home in Las Vegas. The sad news was announced by his wife in his obituary. She wrote:
“Although William often played toughs and strongmen, in his actual life he was an elegant man with a brilliant intellect who loved to argue about politics and current affairs, discuss philosophy and physics and assert fine-pointed opinions about art and poetry.”
Lucking will be familiar to modern TV audiences as Piermont “Piney” Winston in Sons of Anarchy but his career included a number of key roles including Col. Lynch in The A-Team, Don Crawford in The French Atlantic Affair, Det. Norm White in Shannon, and Harland Pike in Outlaws. His career began back in 1968 with a role in Ironside, and would go on to include roles on the big and small screen such as Mission: Impossible, The Partridge Family, Harold and Maude, The Magnificent Seven Ride!, Kung Fu, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze, Policewoman, The Rockford Files, Dr. Scorpion, Hart to Hart, Captain America II: Death Too Soon, The Incredible Hulk, CHiPs, The Greatest American Hero, M*A*S*H, Tales of the Gold Monkey, Knightrider, Matt Houston, T.J. Hooker, Simon & Simon, Hunter, Murder She Wrote and a whole lot more.
When discussing his career, he once commented:
“Don’t even think of acting as a profession unless not doing it would cause you to sicken and waste away. After you have made this preposterous decision, there are a few rules to guide you either up or down in your career.”
