Archenemy (2020)

Directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer, Archenemy is the second movie of The Vortex Trilogy that also includes Daniel Isn’t Real. It stars Skylan Brooks as Hamster, a young teenager who dreams of being a reporter and making a difference in the world. Hamster lives with his sister Indigo (Zolee Griggs); Indigo works for a criminal boss known as The Manager (Glenn Howerton). Indigo plans to get enough money to get Hamster to college, then she will leave her criminal ways behind her.

Hamster meets a mysterious man named Max Fist (Joe Manganiello) who claims he is a superhero who lost his superpowers after arriving from another dimension after falling through time and space. Max tells drunken stories about his world in a bar for whisky. No one believes his stories except for Hamster who documents them for a social media news channel.

Meanwhile, on a job to collect payments for The Manager, Indigo’s life is thrown into turmoil when the man she is collecting from Krieg (Paul Scheer) accidently shoots himself. Later the manager is talking to his men about Krieg. Krieg owes him money and is now dead. He sends his men, including Finn (Joseph D. Reitman), to talk to Indigo. She states that when she got to the hotel Krieg did not answer her. Finn reveals that they think Krieg shot himself but later they find the money and realise Indigo stole it. They attempt to kill Hamster but Max saves him. With their lives in danger they go into hiding.

Hamster, Indigo, and Max then take to the streets to wipe out the local drug syndicate and the man behind it – The Manager!
