Mira Furlan passes away aged 65
It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that Mira Furlan has passed away at the age of 65 years old due to complications with West Nile Virus. The sad news was broken by her family:
“It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of Mira Furlan. She was a woman full of kindness, strength and compassion. She died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by her family. “We will all continue to celebrate her life and legacy, and know she’ll always be here with us.”
Furlan was a leading actress of theatre, film and TV in the former Yugoslavia, she emigrated to the U.S. with her husband, Goran Gajic, in November 1991, due to the intolerable political circumstances in her homeland. Since that time she became globally known for her roles as Minbari Ambassador Delenn in Babylon 5, and as Danielle Rousseau in Lost. She was also the voice of Silver Sable in the 1997 Spider-Man animated series.
Reflected on Babylon 5 she once commented:
“Babylon 5 is definitely not a fantasy. It is a show that constantly refers to sociological, political, and psychological facts of our present life, and it is that which makes it so valuable, I think.”
She also appeared in Space Command, Paint By Murder, Just Add Magic, The Abandoned, Night Stalker, Cyclops, as well as the video games Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Mafia: Definitive Edition, Beyond Blue, and Elite: Dangerous.
Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski paid tribute to the late actress via Twitter:
It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her. But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe. pic.twitter.com/HyQlqyC19v
