Buy and Cell (1988)
Directed by Robert Boris, Buy and Cell was an 80’statstic comedy that followed the plight of poor, shy, Herbie Altman (Robert Carradine) – a man framed by his boss Reggie (Michael Goodwin) for stock market fraud following an investigation by the SEC. As a result Herbie is thrown in prison.
Upon his entry to prison he meets Warden Tennant (Malcolm McDowell) and prison guard Wolf (Randall “Tex” Cobb). Herbie fears for his life especially when he is placed in a cell with Sly (Michael Winslow). Sly shows a nervous Herbie around the prison where he meets the multi-personalities of VCR (Fred Travalena), Raoul (Tony Plana), Cowboy (Roddy Piper), and Dr. Ellen Scott (Lise Cutter)’
As the plot progresses Herbie realises that by using his stock market knowledge he can help his fellow inmate successfully invest their money on the stock market (and leave him alone in the process!).
Word soon spreads across the prison and Herbie is helping everyone and it starts to become too much for him to manage so he forms a new compnay called CON INC. and runs it from the prison under the noses of the warden and the guards. But when the IRS and SEC begin to investigate this successful new company, it looks like he may be in trouble again…
