Cult TV Essentials: Future Cop

Created by Anthony Wilson and Allen S. Epstein, Future Cop starred Ernest Borgnine, Michael J. Shannon, and John Amos. It debuted in March 1977 and ran for eight episodes. It was based on a 1976 TV movie of the same name. The premise of the show was that veteran street cop Officer Joe Cleaver (Borgnine) is paired with an experimental android, Haven (Shannon), that has been programmed by the police lab to be his new partner.

In the first episode of the series, Haven attempts to infiltrate a crooked boxing ring by posing as a talented Irish boxer, in another adventure he goes undercover as a card sharp. Further adventures would see a psychopath threaten to bomb a number of Los Angeles buildings unless the police release a revolutionary currently held in prison; they officers would meet a woman perched on the ledge of a ten-story building threatens to jump unless police can convince her estranged father to talk to her; whilst another time the partners investigate a reputable businessman who uses his company as a front to sell drugs.
