Review- Worzel Gummidge Ep. 2 The Green Man

In Mackenzie Crook’s second episode of Worzel Gummidge a mysterious man arrival to Scatterbrook known as The Green Man (Michael Palin). Through the episode it is revealed that The Green Man is the creator of scarecrows and keeper of scarecrow lore and he is not happy at all with Worzel is mixing with Susan and John.

Meanwhile Scatterbrook is being terrorised by the Scarecrow biker gang “The Trubblemakers” led by Harley Davidson aka Soggy Bogart, the marrow-headed, wig wearing, leather-jacketed leader (played by Colin Michael Carmichael).

Through the episode Worzel must pacify The Green Man whilst protecting Scatterbrook from “The Trubblemakers” whilst impressing Earthy Mangold (Francesca Mills) at the same time!

Verdict: 8/10. The Green Man builds on the previous episode and opens up the world of Scatterbrook and the Scarecrows of Albion furtehr to teh audience. It again creates and builds on the ancient mythology and folklore of England, aided by a haunting soundtrack from folk band The Unthanks.

You can watch the episode on BBCiPlayer HERE.
