Zomboat! Episode 6

It is the final episode of Season 1, and as expected following the somewhat calmness of last week’s episode this week is about to go off the scale. Our crew are stopped on their travels by the army and taken to a local evacuation centre ran by Mr. Harrison (George Potts). Kat (Leah Brotherhead) is immediately not convinced with the way Harrison is running things and also questions the army and government involvement in the zombie outbreak.

Meanwhile Jo (Cara Theobold) is reunited with Rob (Rory Fleck Byrne) who is a soldier at the evacuation centre. Rob comments that he needs to find Patient Zero – which turns out to be Jude (Callum Kerr) – Jo brings him up to speed on that one!

During their time at the centre the group become separated with Sunny (Hamza Jeetooa) and Amar (Ryan McKen) spending their time up in a dormitory. What they witness from a window soon makes them relaise they have a better grip on the situation than those running the centre and set off to find Kat and Jo. Is it too late though as hordes of zombies flood the centre?

As far as series climaxes go this one was built up and delivered. The series paced out their story well whilst highlighting their strengths (great writing, actors) and hidding their weaknesses (budget). The various threads of narrative all pulled together to deliver a solid ending that almost “slight-of-handed” me into believing how the episode would end. If you were paying close attention you will have also noticed further seeds were planted in this episodes for Season 2! We better get a Season 2!

Verdict: 9/10 A great episode of chaos and mayhem that concluded a series almost in a bookend like way. It leaves the crew venturing out to new territory both in storyline and on their boat. As I mentioned, certain groundwork has been laid for Season 2, and there are still a number of open ended questions left dangling from previous episodes to tease us with. So we await Season 2 with great interest.
