Riptide

Created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo, Riptide was a detective series that ran for three seasons (56 episodes) between 1984 and 1986. It followed the adventures of Cody Allen (Perry King), Nick Ryder (Joe Penny) and Murray “Boz” Bozinsky (Thom Bray). Cody and Nick were two former Army friends who decide to open their own detective agency known as Pier 56 Detective Agency (later known as the Riptide Detective Agency) in Los Angeles, California. They recruit Boz, a man they met in the military, to help them when they realise they need help in the computer and technology department.

The Pier 56 Detective Agency is located on Cody’s boat the Riptide. Through the series we were also introduced to Boz’s robot, The Roboz  Nick’s Sikorsky S-58T helicopter – The Screaming Mimi, and Cody’s speedboat, the Ebb Tide.

During their investigation the trio would often clash with local police officer Lt. Ted Quinlan (Jack Ging). Lt. Joanna Parisi (June Chadwick) would become the trios police contact in the last six episodes. Other faces we would meet include Mama Jo (Anne Francis), the skipper of the tourist boat Barefoot Contessa, Max (Marsha Warfield), a a local club comedian and Dooley (Ken Olandt), a dock boy who occasionally assists the team in their escapades.

Other names of interest that pop up through the series include Richard Hatch, Paul Gleason, Cesar Romero, Stepfanie Kramer, Jane Badler, Kim Darby, Daphne Ashbrook, Ray Wise, William Smith, John Astin, Richard Lynch, Geena Davis, Rosalind Cash, James Cromwell, Claudia Christian, Marshall R. Teague, Anthony James, Fionnula Flanagan, Lance Henriksen, George Clooney, Ismael ‘East’ Carlo, Don Stark, Al Leong, Xander Berkeley, Alan Fudge, Gene LeBell, Branscombe Richmond, and Ric Drasin amongst others.
