It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that acting legend Windsor Davies passed away on Thursday at the age of 88 years old. Davies had retired to France with his wife of 62 years, Eluned, who died in September. They had five children. His daughter Jane Davies said her parents left a large family “who will all remember them with love, laughter and gratitude.”
Davies was well known as Battery Sergeant-Major ‘Shut Up’ Williams in It Aint Half Hot Mum; and had a surprise number one hit record in the UK in 1975 with “Whispering Grass”, a duet with his It Ain’t Half Hot Mum co-star Don Estelle.
Davies also featured in The Guardians, The Alphabet Murders, Adam Adamant Lives!, Doctor Who, Softly Softly, Sanctuary, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, UFO, The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes, Z-Cars, Billy Liar, The Wind in the Willows, Gormenghast, and as Sgt. Major Zero in Terrahawks.
