It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to announce that Gloria Katz has passed away at the age of 76 years old. It is being reported that Katz passed away on Sunday in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a battle with ovarian cancer.
Katz was an Oscar-nominated producer and screenwriter. Often collaborating with her husband William Huyck and George Lucas, Katz co-wrote American Graffiti, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Howard the Duck and Radioland Murders.
Katz and Huyck also carried out an uncredited script polish on the original Star Wars, penning about 30% of the film’s dialogue. Their biggest contributions were adding humour and making the Princess Leia character much more assertive.
She also co-wrote Messiah of Evil (where she had a cameo as the Ticket Booth Zombie), Lucky Lady, French Postcards (where she had a cameo as Chief Snail), and Best Defense.
