New Kids on the Block

By the time we hit the late 1980’s New Kids on the Block were one of the biggest pop bands in the world. So in 1990 (two years before all those lip synching allegations hit the headlines) it was decided to cash in on them further by turning them into a cartoon series.

For 15 episodes, the New Kids and their manager got up to a bizarre series of cartoon troupe adventures. In a weird turn of events though, none of the New Kids provided their own voices for the show (apparently this was because of licensing reasons) but they did appear in live action inserts. Their music also appeared in the show with “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” being the opening theme and an instrumental version of “Step by Step” being the closing theme.

An awful cash in, but a pop culture moment never the less!
