Joel Hodgson‘s Kickstarter campaign to bring back Mystery Science Theater 3000 this morning, the MST3K creator confirmed he intends The Nerdist‘s Jonah Ray to succeed him and Mike Nelson as the host of the revived show. From the initial pitch video, many guessed Ray was involved as the mystery human-shaped silhouette between Crow and Tom Servo.
As Hodgson noted in his update, he cannot actually offer the job to Ray until the project is successful backed, but said that after getting to know Ray, he “just felt like his heart was in the right place, and I could see how much he loved and understood MST3K.” Seeing him as someone who could where the jumpsuit, Hodgson eventually asked if he’d be interested in hosting the show should it ever come back.
“He said ‘yes’ right away,” Hodgson wrote. “Without a second of hesitancy, and we’ve been talking about it ever since.”
On Twitter, Ray said, “I want everybody to know that this show means the world to me and I will do my best for MSTies, because I am one.”
Of course, the project still needs to be funded, but it has nearly secured its initial $2 million goal. Hodgson hopes to raise $5.5 million in order to make twelve feature length episodes of the show.
