Bevan played Professor Clifford Jones M.B.E. in six episodes of Doctor Who story “The Green Death” in 1973 and also reprised his role alongside Jon Pertwee for later trailers and documentaries of the BBC show. Bevan had been dating Katy Manning when he was cast as Jones, the love interest of Manning’s character Jo Grant. The character of Jones was portrayed as a brilliant Welsh biologist and mycologist. He published a paper on DNA synthesis which the Third Doctor admired for being advanced relative to the 20th century Earth standard. He became a Nobel laureate.
His other acting credits include an appearance in Emmerdale in 1977 as well as a string of films including To Sir With Love, Steptoe and Son Ride Again, Brannigan, The Ghoul, House Of Mortal Sin, Emmerdale, Dick Turpin, Secret Army, Blake’s 7, The Enigma Files, The Gentle Touch, Grange Hill, Silent WItness, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking, and The Scouting Book For Boys.
