Review- Brave New World Ep. 2: Want and Consequence

The second episode of Brave New World, Want and Consequence, begins with Bernard (Harry Lloyd) being sent away for a holiday to The Savage Lands. Lenina (Jessica Brown Findlay) joins him and is excited as it is her first ever time out of New London. Soon the pair are on a futuristic rocket and on their way!

Once at The Savage lands they join the amusement park on a bus and discover life, family structure and the four houses of The Savage Lands and enjoy a show at “The House of Want.” Soon Lenina and Bernard’s relationship starts to develop and they admit they want each other exclusively whcih is totally unconvential to them and against evrything New London stands for.

John’s (Alden Ehrenreich) encounter with Madysun (Lara Peake) raises anxiety and confusion, and he tells his mother Linda (Demi Moore) they should leave in fear of being killed. At the House of Monogamy, Bernard meets an old friend Cortez (Mark Umbers) who is a Warden of The Savage Lands. It is hinted that Bernard may be there as his replacement (unbeknown to Bernard!). Later as the guests watch a marriage ceremony show (keep an eye of for the hilarious theatre director in the background), a rebellion break out as the cast realise they are shooting live rounds and two vans pull up and open fire on everyone. Bernard is shot in the shoulder so Lenina carries Bernard and looks for a place to hide, hoping not to be found…

Verdict: 8/10. A stronger episode that not only expands the world of Brave New World but also develops its characters. We get more of the darkness underneath the societies of New London and The Savage Land and how it is has impacted on the lives of those who inhabit it.
