Preview: Happy Gilmore (Bluray)

Adam Sandler stars as Happy Gilmore in the over-the-top comedy that scores a hole in one for hilarity. After his dream of stardom on the hockey ice melts, Happy Gilmore discovers he has a gift that could bring him glory on the greens. Trouble is, with his hot head and hard-hitting drives, Happy doesn’t just play golf…he destroys it. With the help of a retired golfer (Carl Weathers) and hot publicist (Julie Bowen), can Happy perfect his game and tame his temper to win the tournament prize money? With unforgettable appearances by Bob Barker, Christopher McDonald and Kevin Nealon, this comedy favorite features non-stop laughs that are par for the course!

Happy Gilmour was written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy (Pixels, The Wedding Singer). Sandler’s movies have grossed over $2bn. This film was a hit at the box office, grossing $41.2 million worldwide and since going on to achieve cult status.

The film won the first ever MTV Movie Award for “Best Fight” for Adam Sandler versus Bob Barker. Sandler has been nominated 35 times for a Golden Raspberry…picking up 9 awards. Conversely he has also been nominated for 2 Grammys and a Golden Globe.

One-time PGA TOUR pro-turned-broadcaster Mark Lye was hired as the official script consultant for the film, when he read it through he told Sandler and his co-writer Tim Herlihy, “You gotta be crazy. You cannot do a movie like that.” He said “They had the green jacket. They were desecrating the USGA. Making fun of Augusta National,” Lye recalls. “I just said, ‘No, no, no. I don’t think you better go there at all.”

Former The Price Is Right host Bob Barker saw ratings for the TV show rise considerably amongst college-age viewers after his cameo in the film. To help promote the movie, Adam Sandler made a cameo appearance on the show. Weirdly The Price Is Right has been directed by another Adam Sandler since 2012.
