It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that British actor George A. Cooper has passed away at the age of 93 years old.
Cooper was known to generations as the miserable school caretaker Eric Griffiths in the cult tv show Grange Hill – a role he played for over 100 episodes from 1985-1992 but Grange Hill was not the only thing he was known for.
Through his long career his appeared in Danger Man, Z-Cars, Dixon of Dock Green, No Hiding Place, Doctor Who, Softly, Softly, The Avengers, The Saint, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Troubleshooters, Steptoe and Son, Doomwatch, Public Eye, Budgie, Bless This House, Sykes, Rising Damp, The New Avengers, Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, All Creatures Great and Small, Juliet Bravo, When the Boat Comes In, Terry and June, Taggart, Casualty and Heartbeat.
On the big screen Cooper appeared in the film version of Bless This House with Sid James, Violent Playground, Hell Is a City, The Cracksman, Nightmare, and Dracula Has Risen from the Grave with Christopher Lee.
Cooper is survived by son Adam, who he shared with his late wife Shirley who passed away in 2000. A funeral will be held at Chichester Crematorium on December 6th 2018.
