US network NBC have put a new spin on the Wizard of Oz – they will be bringing us Emerald City – which follows 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and a K9 police dog who’re swept into a world far removed from our own via a tornado.
The mystical land they’re taken to has competing realms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy.
It’s Oz “completely reimagined”, says NBC.
“A place where familiar characters show up in fresh, unexpected ways, and where an unsuspecting young woman holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands”.
Emerald City is directed by Tarsem Singh, the man behind visually stunning films like The Fall, Immortals and The Cell.
It stars Adria Arjona, Vincent D’Onofrio and Isabel Lucas among the cast and is set for a premiere in January:
