Alison Brie to star in Netflix’s female wrestling G.L.O.W. series!
Variety have confirmed that Alison Brie (Community, Mad Men, The Lego Movie) will star in Netflix’s female wrestling series G.L.O.W. based on David Mclane’s 1980’s wrestling league the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling. The show will be written by Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black).
G.L.O.W. (and later P.O.W.W. – Powerful Woman of Wrestling) was a female wrestling promotion founded by David McLane. It became an internationally syndicated series. McLane also created the ESPN series of the World Roller Hockey League, Pro Beach Hockey and the Triple Crown of Polo under his company banner David McLane Enterprises, Inc. G.L.O.W. at one time featured Jackie Stallone (Mother of Sly), Dee Booher and Lisa Moretti – who would later gain fame in WWE under the name Ivory.
The new half-hour series, which is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams,” is inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, and will tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress — played by Brie — who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.
