Toho Studios to bring back Godzilla
The original Godzilla will rise once more as Japan’s Toho Studios are currently working on a new instalment of the monster franchise. They hope it will be released in 2016.
The studio told reporters at the Godzilla Strategic Conference it was spurred on by the success of this year’s American Godzilla. In the words of producer Taichi Ueda, “The time has come for Japan to make a film that will not lose to Hollywood.” This news comes as no relief to the struggling rubber-suit industry; the studio hints that its new monster will likely be CGI. Toho’s last Godzilla movie was 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, which memorably dispatched the terrible Roland Emmerich Godzilla by throwing him into the Sydney Opera House.
